چکیده
Following up on our earlier work and the work of N. Karpenko and A. Merkurjev, we study the essential p-dimension of linear algebraic groups G whose connected component G is a torus.

Meromorphic groups
We show that a connected group interpretable in a compact complex manifold (a meromorphic group) is definably an extension of a complex torus by a linear algebraic group, generalizing results in [4]. A special case of this result, as well as one of the ingredients in the proof, is that a strongly minimal modular meromorphic group is a complex torus, answering a question of Hrushovski. As a cons...
متن کاملAffine Algebraic Groups with Periodic Components
A connected component of an affine algebraic group is called periodic if all its elements have finite order. We give a characterization of periodic components in terms of automorphisms with finite number of fixed points. It is also discussed which connected groups have finite extensions with periodic components. The results are applied to the study of the normalizer of a maximal torus in a simp...
متن کاملTHE ORDER GRAPHS OF GROUPS
Let $G$ be a group. The order graph of $G$ is the (undirected)graph $Gamma(G)$,those whose vertices are non-trivial subgroups of $G$ and two distinctvertices $H$ and $K$ are adjacent if and only if either$o(H)|o(K)$ or $o(K)|o(H)$. In this paper, we investigate theinterplay between the group-theoretic properties of $G$ and thegraph-theoretic properties of $Gamma(G)$. For a finite group$G$, we s...
متن کاملThe Homology of Kummer Manifolds
The theory of Kummer surfaces is a classical topic in algebraic geometry.1 A generalization to higher dimensions has been given by W. Wirtinger.2 The varieties introduced by Wirtinger may be called Kummer varieties and have algebraic dimension n with 22n ordinary double points. If these double points are desingularized in a standard manner by means of "dilatations," one obtains nonsingular vari...
متن کاملCosets, genericity, and the Weyl group
In a connected group of finite Morley rank in which, generically, elements belong to connected nilpotent subgroups, proper normalizing cosets of definable subgroups are not generous. We explain why this is true and what consequences this has on an abstract theory of Weyl groups in groups of finite Morley rank. The only known infinite simple groups of finite Morley rank are the simple algebraic ...
